A lie-in!

Thursday October 19th.

I had a lie-in for the first time in months! Nikki and Rob got home by midnight and then I drove the 40 minute journey home and so it was 1am before I was in bed. So as a consequence I was over-tired and obviously my body needed to catch up.While I lay in bed I listened to the topical discussion and phone in on 5 Live. This is often very interesting and makes up for the fact that I never have anyone to discuss things with as I live alone.I have rung in before now and put my point of view! Today because Macca's pending divorce is headline news they were talking about whether you could have a harmonious divorce. As Victoria said how could it be stress free and harmonious. In my experience it was led by solicitors who clocked up large bills for the couple involved. My solicitor was trying to get a good deal for me and my husband'ssolicitor(who was much cleverer) tried to get his client off the hook completely financially. In the end I never ever got a penny for me or my kids from my ex. He wriggled out of it all and although he was supposed to pay maintenance for the boys his cheques always bounced! There was no CSA in those days and you had to keep going back to court at more cost. I gave up in the end and brought up my kids with no help financial or otherwise from my ex. My story was mirrored by many of the people phoning in. It is the solicitors who will give the papers lots to write about as they will dig up any dirt and use it to get the largest sum for their client.Imagine what ther final bill is likely to be? A good discussion this morning which I stayed in bed to listen to.

Well it is a horrible day, drizzly rain but not cold. It looks as if this rain is in for the duration. I shall go to the pool later and then do my lesson with Hannah and then come back home for the TV. I was going over to Nikki's but she has a house full with lots of boys today as it is an INSET day and a Parents open day. That means she will have 6 or more boys charging around the house all day. I think I will stay home this time.

I have just had crumpets wirh marmite which was delicious. It is funny as marmite is apparently an acquired taste. I love it and so does Andy. Matt cannot stand it and eats peanut butter with jam.........urgh!! Nikki has honey or marmalade. When we were in Singapore we could not get it but then found Vegemite an Australian product but not as strong as Marmite.I found it in Sainsburys the other day. This must be a consequence of having so many Aussies in this country nowadays.

Not that I dislike Aussies and Kiwis as I lived with them in Singapore for 4 years. We were the only Brits on a officers married quarters base. The others were all Aussies and Kiwis. We made some good friends and I know if I could ever afford the fare I could go and visit them. We have kept in touch over the years. They were such good fun and a lot more laid back than the average British officer. We lived in Officers married quarters as we were teaching Service children. The Army had its own schools and the RAF and Navy. It was combined to form the SCEA Service Childrens Education Authority. We were appointed on 3 year tours and were paid double salary some of which was tax free. Five years with them enabled us to save enough to buy a house. It was a big leg up for us in our early marriage. It is still going but there are hrdly any schools left. A few in germany, Brussels,Gibraltar, Malta, Cyprus and I think that'sit. In the 70s there were schools all over the world and you could apply for them.We spent a few months in Hong Kong on exchange and that was fascinating.

Going to do the ironing now and doanother load of washing from the change of bedding. Then I am going to put up a few pictures in the hall and my wonderful clock. This actually chimes too but do not think I want that. Mum had it in the lounge and stopped the chime as it kept waking her up! Have a good day folks!

I need to get some sleep today as the weather has been changing from warm to cold and raining.    I have only had 5 hours sleep in the last 2 days and had to make an appointment this morning to check for signs of skin cancer and was given a clean bill of health.     The reason I can't sleep was due to constant back pain with my severe arthritis.     Finally I think I will get some sleep and am ready for it.     I live alone also and find the journals to be a great outlet for communicating with people of all different walks of life.     Hoping you are having a good week and thank you for your support in visiting my journal.    mark
