Had an influx of shifts at work lately which I'm grabbing with both hands at the moment. The extra money will boost the spending fund for our trip to Sydney later on in the summer. The past couple of weeks have been really enjoyable. Been getting out and about in the car with Joesph and the family on a couple of scenic trips. Got some good pictures to share which I'll upload when I get the chance. My next day off isn't for another two weeks (my choice) so I'll squeeze a few moments in between shifts.

Note: Hi to Godwill who sent me a message via Bebo. Will be in touch shortly between shifts. Great to hear from you! :o)

Joseph's birthday trip seems to be proving a little more difficult to organise than I first thought. The Museum Of Flight is only open at weekends so that's the whole 'Borders' tour up in the air. Instead, I'm toying with the idea of driving up through Glenshee to visit Balmoral, Braemar & Banchory (and anywhere else atarting with B, lol). Still to explore other attraction options besides the castle but I'm sure it'll all work out eventually.

Been busy this past week with the day job. Joseph and I have decided which dates we're going on holiday this year. We've set aside 23rd August - 15 September 2008 for our next trip to Sydney which we're looking forward to. In the meantime, my immediate attention is being focused on Valentine's Day. I have a day off tomorrow so I'm going to spend it preparing a nice meal/romantic night in.

Joseph's birthday is on 26th of this month and I've decided to whisk him away for the day. He's suggested visiting the Museum Of Flight at Athelstaneford so I'm going to base the day around that. Thinking of taking him to a nice restaurant in Swinton, near the town of Duns (The Wheatsheaf) before maybe driving down to Berwick-Upon-Tweed for the rest of the day before returning home via the Clyde Valley. Should be a nice day and I'll hopefully have some nice pictures to share.

I'm on one of those weekends at work that are labelled 'the weekend of doom'. They are given this tag due to the nature of the spacing between shifts. Three consecutive shifts spaced apart by around 11 hours so there's only enough time between each to go home, go to bed and then get back up and go back in again. I'm in the middle of one of those patterns just now so there's been absolutely no time to do anything recreational. Social life is on hold until Monday afternoon at the earliest!

Music:  Ida Corr Vs Fedde Le Grand - Let Me Think About It

Been busy the past couple of days sorting out some things for my sister. One of those things was a CV. She's since successfully secured a job with Menzies Hotel in Glasgow City Centre. Jac had studied for a hairdressing qualification at Clydebank College which she completed but, unfortunately, she's found that she's allergic to the chemicals used to strip colour from hair, etc. Despite covering her hands with gloves and the like to protect them from the harsh substances, they still managed to get in somehow and irritate her hands. The doctor confirmed that it was an allergic reaction rather than a mild irritation and that she'd have to leave the profession if she wanted to keep her hands in an acceptable state. I suggested she try to work at a gents barber shop instead as the chemicals wouldn't be used as much but it's the colouring and styling she has a flair for so the doctor's advice has been heeded.

On the music front, I'm working on old an 'Old Skool' version and a 'Dance Classics' version of Monsters. 'Old Skool' is looking to be a mixture of early rave which permeated the UK charts during the first segment of the 90s and some 'tartan techno' which dominated the Scottish dance scene during the early to mid 90s. 'Dance Classics' will showcase the best offerings in dance music over the past 20-or-so years. It'll take a while to complete in between domestic tasks and work shifts but I'll give you all a 'heads-up' when it's near completion.

Subject: 2008 - A Year Of Change and Preparation

2008 heralds a lot of change in my life. The first change is in my attitude to my health. I've let myself go quite a bit since I got the car back in August and tomorrow sees me shift my attitude to a more healthier outlook. I joined the city council's Glasgow Club fitness scheme which allows unlimited use of the city's health and fitness facilities. Tomorrow is my gym induction and I plan to have a look for a couple of fitness classes to join. Circuit training seems to be the one that might be most beneficial to me as it should help me to tone up while the excess weight slowly drops off. I'm hoping that, as I lose the weight, it should boost my confidence more.

This year is also the year that my plan to pay off any remaining debts I have takes shape before Joseph and I make the big move abroad. It shouldn't take too long and, one everything's settled, the monthly amount set aside for repayments can be put away as a starter fund to help Joseph and myself lay down some financial stability during our first months in Sydney. Every spare penny counts!

Subject: The Last Days Of 2007.
Time: 19:58:59 o'clock GMT

Mood:  Happy

The last days of 2007 were a lot different to what I've done in previous years. The first two weeks consisted of my last two weeks of work in 2007 which was completed by three DJ gigs in a row (a mixture of Christmas parties and birthday parties). Then there was the holiday that didn't happen after that (another story). Joseph and I ended up with a rather cosy 'family-orientated' festive season. Both sides of the family came over for Christmas dinner (which was cooked to perfection by Joseph). I have to say that, on reflection, it was the best Chirstmas day ever for a number of reasons. Namely some fab presents I received (sat nav, aftershave, sweets, clothes, etc) as well as something that never usually happens - from the moment everyone arrived to the moment they left was a non-stop barrage of laughs and conversation. NOT ONCE was the television given any attention despite it being on in the background. Joseph and I were exhausted after it all but it was well worth it.

After Christmas, we made a trip (armed with the sat nav) down to Doncaster to visit David and Kylie (Joseph's brother and partner) for a few days. It was great to catch up with them and it also gave Joseph and myself our first taste of a 'working men's social club'. Think Peter Kay and Phoenix Nights and you're not far away. Woe betide anyone who spoke while the bingo numbers were called out, although J and myself were trying our best not to laugh when the live act took to the stage. 'Put you hands together, a big round of applause for 'Art & Soul' (actually named Heart & Soul but the Yorkshire accent always fails to spot a leading 'H'). The similarities between that club and the comedy series had us in stitches, it was a remarkably funny night and the locals were brilliantly welcoming to us.

We headed back home in time for Hogmanay. Joseph did have tickets for Edinburgh but the weather was rotten and we decided to stay at home. Sky News broadcast Sydney's celebrations at 1pm which were nothing short of spectacular as usual, an extremely colourful reminder of how much I miss 'Down-Under'.

New Year came and went for us uneventfully. We did do some 'first-footing' with the family afterwards as is tradition.

I was due to return to work on the 8th of January so I made use of my final few days off by going on an evening drive on the 3rd with my sister. Snow had been forecast for much of Scotland but, as usual, Glasgow is protected from the worst of it by the Campsie Mountains so little chance of the white stuff in the city. We did find lots of snow though in Dunblane which is only 40 minutes or so north-east of Glasgow. I have some nice scenic snowy pics of our visit which I'll upload later.

I decided to take the car away randomly on my own on the 4th. The weather was clear in Glasgow but I soon hit blizzards on the M74 south of Lesmahagow. Undeterred by the white stuff, I continued south and spent some time in Carlisle before heading back home via Dumfries. Theere something quite therapeutic I find about driving, provided the traffic jams are avoided and, thanks to sat nav technology, that's almost a given in this day and age.

The return to work on the 8th brought a feeling I hadn't had for years. You know that feeling you got when you were a child on you first day back at school after a long holiday. Yep, I got that on the way back to work (well, I had been off for nearly a month). Work at the bus station continues as normal but there's a hint of change eminating from whispers in the middle management areas. Not sure what to make of them yet but time will prove whether the whispers are truthful or not.

Hello peeps. No, I haven't died! Things had been getting a bit too hectic in my life and this blog has been one of the things that has suffered up until now. So much has been happening over the past few months, some good, some bad and some interesting. To kick-start things with the next post, I'll let you all into where I've been and what I've been up to over the past few months.

The DJ-ing's going well with a good few gigs under my belt in the run-up to Christmas 2007 and the Monsters 2007 'end-of-year' compilation was also a huge success. 2008's looking to be a changable year with a shift in my lifestyle planned. More on that in the next post.
