Weeding

So much weeding to do, so little time to do it.  Fortunately I know have help in the person of Pixie the Poodle. Named after the well-known AOL gardener (or so I hear) she has proved very useful in running around the lawn shaken the life out of weeds. Here she inspects Stipa tenuisima for scent of fox.

In the front garden the pansies were weeded, with or without help, while in the greenhouse I am battling with a mouse who has a taste for lettuce seedlings and sweetcorn: 4th sowing now, and still hardly a plant to show for it. Poison has been placed.....die mouse, die!

What a great journal. I look forward to hearing more about how the garden grows, and seeing more pictures.

Sorry to hear of your mouse in the greenhouse, I had one earlier in the year it ate only larger seeds and gnawed on my chitting seed potatoes.  I bought a cheap mousetrap an baited it with a pumpkin seed and sprilkled a few around and about. The next morning all the seeds were gone including the one I spiked on the trap, and the trap was still set! It got a good meal that night, I set the trap with a large  cube of cheddar. The next morning he was there dead, with his teeth in the cheese and I felt guilty for a while. Now everything is lovely in my green house, my sweetcornis peeping through, my french beans are rearing up backwards as they do and nothings been nibbled. I just hope our dead friend, who's fertilising a small Oak at the bottom of my garden, has no vengeful relatives.

Dont smoke near dry grass as it can be highly flamable
