In flower now.....
Messing about in a garden in Highgate (London) this week, I came across a number of huge Camellias, including this lovely red one.....a Magnolia soulangiana....and a Pieris, showing flower and brightly coloured new leaves and shoots. This was a cool woodland garden on acid soil: ideal.
In my own garden, this Camellia greets visitors to the front door, where we grow it in a large pot of acid compost. The variety is Silver Anniversery.
I'm learning to love Bergenia and have these plants in flower now (10th April) This part of the garden is open, but recieves only early morning sun.
Close by, in what we like to call our Courtyard Garden, Rosmary hedges are flowering already: in fact, they hardly ever seem out of flower and the scent of the foliage is wonderful. The soil here is ideal for rosmary: builders rubble mostly, between the house and a brick path.
