Oxford to Cambridge Bike Ride

Took place on the 24th September 2006.

Charlene and I signed up to do the bike ride for the British heart foundation. I had always wanted to do a bike ride and this felt like the right time to do it. Somehow I managed to find a little bit of time to go to the gym and to go for practice bike rides before hand. Although this was not easy, as I just always seem to be busy!

On The Saturday morning me and Charlene rode around the local area just to give ourselves one final practice of cycling on the road. We then set of towards Oxford around 2pm – we reached our destination around 5ish and parked up and explored our hotel. We stayed at Red Mullion and we were very happy with the room. We had booked a bunk bed and a double bed. So off course I wasn’t yet aware that I would spend the night hanging of the bunk bed as I had to share the bottom bunk with Marcus.

We went out to the town centre for a nice meal – although it would have been nicer to of eaten in a more traditional Oxford eatery rather than a dull beefeater chain! But alas the meal was still satisfactory. For the rest of the evening we just had tea a natter and fell asleep – well everyone else did apart from me, as I was clinging on to the bed post like a cat in a tree!!

Sunday arrived

We woke and ate breakfast – the meal was lovely although I really couldn’t stomach much as I was so nervous. We then set up our bikes and nervously set of. We went into the town centre and reached the start at Broad Street. We attached our rider number to our bags – mine being 227. We submitted our official entry card and were given a map. At this point I obviously needed the loo, however I knew the fear would soon pass once we had started. We were called over to the start line, ear phones to the ready a loud whilst bleed and the start line opened and off we went. The feeling was amazing the wind in our hair, the cheers and support from the hundreds of other riders really gave me a feeling of euphoria.

The route was all fully signed. So we just followed them, it wasn’t until we got to the countryside that it really started to set in, the fact that we would be riding 85miles!!

The event was clearly signed and had marshals on the major junctions to help and direct us. At various points Relief vehicles drove by and were on the look out for breakdowns.

The main areas we stopped at were, March Gibbon and Twyford where we were watered and went to the loo. It wasn’t until we had been cycling for a bit when I guy called out ‘only another 75 miles to go’. How nice of him to remind us!!

Cycling through the countryside was brilliant, we experienced the villagers waving at us, the peacefulness of the villages, the animals doing animal things!, the smell of a lot of dung, the rain of oxford and the loneliness of the forest.

It really was a tremendous experience. However after experiencing these sights and the rumble of a hungry stomach (not being able to eat breakfast and cycling for 6 hours) the feeling of dread started to set in! I started to panic that I wouldn’t be able to complete the ride which was scary as my legs were being to hurt and my butt ached!

However because I had Charlene there I didn’t want her to become demotivated so tried to keep a cheerful face and keep enthustic. I clearly remember the urge of wanting to cry as I had completely unestimated the distance of 85miles.

Me and Charlene kept at it, and 10 HOURS later we crossed the finish line and received our medal. And I made a grab for 3 ripe, chilled apples which barely satisfied my ravenous hunger!!

I am really proud to have taken on the bike ride. It was a pleasure and a relief to have Charlene there to help support each other through this adventure.

It was a really amazing experience and thanks to everyone who donated money for British Heart Foundation.

Subject: ARSENAL!!

If i had of been a arsenal football fan,  this would of been the best day of my life!!

I was attending a duty with St John Ambulance, i have never been to charlton so i asked if i could park in their car park, and got told no.  I then told them that my duty manager said that was fine and that i could park next to the ambulances.  So i managed to get through 3 check points to what turned out to be the members car park.  Where the manager of Arsenal and his croonies were parked. There was a fleet of smart cars all lined up but hey this really didnt mean much to me!!

When the SJA duty manager asked me where i parked - he was shocked as he said that they can't even park there!!  Anyway duty was great we walked around the outskirts of the pitch - you might even see a disinterested me walking around checking the cadets are ok.  We weren't allow to walk pass the Arsenal manager as we would get into trouble as Dean said that he has to have full view of the pitch!!  There were camaras everywhere!!  How naive - i didn't realise how big a game this was.

Anyway theres me walking by the side of the pitch, quite disinterested - infact i was more interested in the atsomphere of the crowd and if i remember clearly, i spent most of my time actually looking at the crowd!!We then went into the control room which was really cool and met everyone in there.

Duty was great and St John Ambulance cadets were brilliant although a bit bewildered that someone from head office was taking to them - they got across that they wanted some new ambulances and about meeting the prior!  Anyway to cut a long story, very short.......

On the way out i had my things - and we were just hanging by the side door as the security had the gate shut (the corridoor went of into a kinda of garage bit, where the Arsenal coach was parked).  I was just watching the players getting on and walking around the coach - as you do!

So me, being me thought hey well Arsenal are famouish and took out a FOUND ON VINCENT WARD cd.  I was talking to one of the guys, just chit chat as i wanted to get out as i didn't want to be stuck in traffic.  When we had the all clear i  walked pass the players that were by the coach (there was about 2 foot of space between the wall and the coach) and handed a footballer from the advert (i knew i reconised him, but it really didn't mean much to me) a cd.  Kinda mubbled my typical stuff about being in a band and told them i was on duty with SJA.  Anyway the security guard let us out, and there were a crush of people waiting for autographs, i heard one kid asking if i was a footballers girlfriend.  (As it was only me and SJA guy leaving the exit).  Still me being me, didn't really make much of this.   Until the SJA guy started talking about it and i was more interested in his Division!!  Anyway people at this stage are staring at me!  - i looked quite smart as i had been on duty.  These guys started bending down to look at me in the car! I was thinking what the heck, i even considered that maybe somethings happened to the back of the car!!  People were staring and completely invading my privacy by staring into the car!!  I was really freaked out.

I was waiting for about 10 minutes as the car park gate had to have clearance to let us out.  Again with this werid fans just staring and crowding everywhere.

I think its only when i was stuck in traffic that i really started to realise that i could of actually of got on the coach and done whatever i wanted to ! - i had just hung out with Arsenal - i couldn't even tell you a players name, thats how little i know about football.  Well there you go i met Arsenal!!  And hopefully they will be bopping away to our cd - he's got to listen to it?

Found on vincent ward - may make it onto Theri-henri ipod - hopefully!!!

I feel like i am going through a weird stage in my life at the moment.  It feels like a turning point to some extent.  Firstly i have given my notice into work, As i can no longer take the racism, taunts and unfunny offensive jokes.  Those aren't the only thing that has lead me to give in my notice.  Its just the awful, gutrencting pain i feel when i know i have to get out of bed to go to work.  When i felt that i knew it was thing for me to move on.  However the thing that has kept me there is the money as my boyfriend doesn't work and i know we are going to find it more diffcult once i get a "proper job". Two wonderful new girls have started as well which has made me feel a little jealous as they are being paid so much and i kiidna feel bad because i feel like i'm leaving a high paid job when things are diffcult for me finaically.  However i am still going.....However the next thing that is constantly on my mind is  i have a interview for a job on wednesday and every bone in my body wants this job.  This is so ideal for me and it hurts to consider the fact that i might not get it.  I adore the st john ambulance i want this job so badly as i know i can do this job well and besides i will have a passion for it.  The weather is great and to be honest i feel likt i am thinking way to much about everything and need to chill out.  I just pray that i get this job as i really feel like i would be the perfect person for the role...Just got to convince the panel that as well!!  !!

Mood:  Happy

May 16th - started out like any other normal day.  I checked my phone and had a message from Steph asking me to check my mail.  I had just enough time to check my mail before i was suppose to leave for work. I opened my email.....

"Do you want to be in the Dirty Pretty Things video?" it read.........

I did but i had to work, so i went and asked Mark if he wanted to go with steph and he said yes...then it clicked in my mind - what the hell am i saying.....I'm actually thinking about going to work when there was an oppotunity like this available!!  I remebered the words of Charlene before she went on a dj-ing trip...She said "always grap those oppotunity as they only come up once".  I mailed Steph and that was it, we were all going to the Ingatestone filmset.

Along the way we had a short ferry trip cross the Thames -  which was quite strange.  All the traffic queued up to cross the river on this ferry.  We saw the Thames barrier and had a lovely trip cross the river and it was all free.  We drove all the way to Ingatestone in Kent with Mark navigating the way.  It was a lovely drive and apart from a few wrong turns we got to the set ontime unaware of what surprises the evening held for us.

There was alot of waiting around and it wasn't until about 5ish when the fun began.  We were driven upto the barn...which was a cool video set with a flash car and bikes, people were busy at work and Dirty Pretty Things were just chilling out and walking around drinking beer and smoking!

Behind the curtains a stripper was stripping and we all saw her tassles!!  She was tottering around all night in her corset and tong and to everyones delight got changed infront of everyone.  Boobies were certainly on the menu tonight.

Carl Barat and the guys played over there time slot and treated everyone to a brilliant set of music. We got hugs and swapped kisses and hand shakes from all of them and they certainly were charming (Me and steph got Carls sweat all over the side of our face!!). When i asked Carl if we could take a picture with him, he said "no", er sorry i mean yes....to many to drinks? ...no he said just the lights were to bright......bless him he was just to sweet.  To many cool things happened to mention them all.  But the thing i loved the most.....was walking down the narrow country path in the pitch black at 12ish  with steph using her phone light to guide us.  Classic with the stars being our only other companions.   If only every night could be like this.

Truely amazing night and there was me thinking that we probably wouldn't even be allow onto the set as we hadn't registered with there website!!

We are registered now....hee hee

Please check out www.officialfoundonvincentward.com - it would be lovely if you left a message.  x

Music:  The sound of Mark playing Tony Hawks skateboarding!

At about 1pm Mark and I had a text asking if Mark wanted to do a random gig outside the shop where Lee works.  He works with a guy called Wanye and they wanted to do something to pass the time as the shop was very quite.  So at approx 3.30pm on Saturday, Lewisham was given a performance by Lee on guitar, Mark on acoustic guitar and Wanye singing random song words!!  It was brilliant as they would just come up with a riff on the spot and try and make a song out of it.  I say more people should do this to pass the time - also it certainly gave the nosy people in Lewisham something to look at!!

Here are some pictures of the Kittie Killers (its a name of a movie by the way - that name was thought up about 2hours before they played!!)  ....cool huh!!

It was the last day of my 2 weeks of work.  So instead of sitting around me and mark thought we would go to Rochester and check it out.  We went to Rochester castle which was brilliant and took a few lovely pictures - theres even one that looks like there is a ghost standing in the window!!  I think its quite spooky!!  Its such an histortical place, with so much to offer.  Also its just nice being away from frantic London.

It isn't that far away from london it took us about 45mins by car and the weather was lovely so we had the sun roof open and Artic Monkeys playing!
