Feeling Relaxed

A bit has happened this past few days. Ive had 2 fish die on me! Both of them were Guppies. One an elderly old male and the other a female who recently had babies. Bit sad to see the back of the male. He was a beautiful blue colour and was one of the original fish that I inherited with the tank. But I warned him to slow down didnt I.  He was a randy old wotsit and chased the girls round the tank like a youngster!  I knew it would be his demise but i spose he died happy! (hehehe)

On a brighter note my big catfish put in a request for a housing move and has been rehomed to my mates tank where he has extra space. He's about 10 inches at the moment but they can grow to 2 feet.  Way too big for my tank.  Anyway, now hes gone i have replaced him with the cutest little thing you ever saw. A bristlenose plec (bn) which ive called billy or billie depending what sex it turns out to be. Its about 2 inches long at the moment but they only grow to 6 inches at best so will be fine for me. 

I'm saving for another bigger tank :)  Ive seen a couple i like and when i get it you'll be one of first to know. Mines ok but its only 12 inches high and id like to give my fishy friends more room. Besides a new one would look sooo cool in my newly decorated living room.  Now the thing is, do i get rid of old one or risk divorce and put it in the dining room  hahahah ..... watch this space.

Feeling Happy

ok ok lol  Here is my watery world update.

The twins are now even bigger and look like mini versions of their mum. Very colourful. Dora also is growing fast but is as yet colourless. Shes quite a character for something less than half an inch long. She swims to the front of the glass and looks at me with a sort of Oliver Twist expression (well i think she does) lol  Anyway i cant resist and always end up feeding her, along with the others. She grabs a mouthful and then swims at full speed back into the plants where the bigger fish cant get to her to steal her food.  Daft thing doesnt realise they have enough of their own to bother taking it from her.

Ive got another baby !!  There i was just watching them all when suddenly i spotted the tiniest fish ever! Its a baby guppy. A girl i think from what i can see at this size (why are all my babies girls, I want boys!) Anyway i quickly grabbed the net and moved her into the nursery. Shes doing well and is now about 5mm long lol

The angel fish that mum bought me was an out and out bully. My original one was living his life behind the filter to try to escape the torment. So I'm afraid he had to go! The shop were brilliant and took it back and exchanged it for 2 little angels that have settled in ok and all three of them are getting on fine. I was sorry to see it go, for one it was pretty and secondly my mum got it for me, but she was fine about it.  The three i have now appear to be great chums at the moment but it could all change again, its a wait and see with angels I'm afraid.

Sad news... Butch the platy has passed away.  He's the one that Gordon fancied and was constantly chasing. Butch had taken to keeping his back against the wall, (well the glass), but he still came out for food and to socialise with his pals. He looked happy enough with fins held high (fishy male pride maybe) but for 2 days i couldnt find him and even his favourite nibble of water fleas didnt draw him out of hiding. And then 2 days ago i found him, floating behind the filter. Dead. A real shame and i was surprisinglysad considering its just a 2 inch long fish, but he'd found his way into my heart. As have all the others.

So thats the news up to date.

Quick recap :  1 death,  1 more birth,  Gordon is going strong and as randy as ever, and all is peaceful in my watery world.

Feeling Chillin'

Well the twins are getting some colour, theyre quite orange now, and theyre growing fast. No more in danger of being eaten they have fitted in well into the community that is my watery world.

We had friends over last weekend (the friends who got me the aquarium) and as Sam and her little 3 yr old were looking they saw yet another baby!! I decided not to 'rescue' it but let nature take its course. Up to now all seems fine, she comes out to feed at dinner time and then goes back to hiding in the plants or behind the rocks. Has she got a name? Of course she has!  My friends tot named her....Dora the Explorer (some kids tv prog apparently) because she looks like she's exploring the tank.

I have a bit of Angel trouble at the moment that I'm hoping will settle down. My mum bought us a second angel fish cos 'your one looks lonely' !  Anyway, the newcomer is a bit of a bully and is harrassing the original one. Will see how it goes but one might have to  be returned to the shop.

Pond is fine, water is clear up to now but then theres not been much sunshine lately.

Must get on with a water change (similar to a nappy change in many ways hehehe). Bye for now.

Feeling Cheerful

 

Spent last weekend cleaning out the pond...yes I'v got a pond too. But thats my husbands really, so i let him take charge of that.  Only got 3 fish in it but they seem happy enough. We have awful trouble keeping the water clear....its usually so murky we may as well not have fish in there at all cos you cant see them! Its in the shade most of the day so i dont know why. But the waterfall and fountain are nice to look at and listen to when sitting in the garden.

I went to the aquarium shop this morning, I really shouldn't go there. I came home with 3 more fish! At the moment theyre floating in plastic bags and the others are swimming around excitedly waiting to greet their new friends. Even the twins are there, swimming bravely amongst the others.

Anyway, I'm off to let them out so I'll keep you posted>>>>

Feeling Anxious

A quick update...wasnt away long was I ! 

My watery world is thriving and the twins have more than doubled in size. I decided to be brave and release them into the main tank (they looked so restricted in the nursery). I managed to easily catch the first one and made sure i released it into the plants. No problem. Number 2 I've decided is gonna be trouble cos although she was put in the same spot she immediantly swam out into the path of a passing Angel fish. I held my breath and luckily the Angle just swam on past. Phewww.

She really is playing chicken though, teasing the other fish and then swimming away. Ive warned her she might get eaten but do kids ever listen! lolol

I have to go to work now, fingers crossed the twins are still here when i get home!

Well I'm home and can only find one baby! I'm hoping the other is hiding in the plants. The one i can see is surely Miss Brave tho, cos shes still chasing the big fish and teasing them. I can almost hear her saying 'Come n eat me' before she darts away out of reach.  Wonder if I'll sleep much tonite worrying about them!!

Feeling Chillin'

Im back from a few days away to visit family and I'm relieved to find my fishy friends all safe and well.

The babies have doubled in size and are nearly big enough to be released into the main tank without being eaten.... maybe another week.

I'm running out of things to ramble on about so i might not blog any more for a while. If anything amazing happens I'll let you know.

Feeling Happy

Well the babies are doing well, my little 2mm bundles of joy lol Theyre still in their nursery to prevent them being Gordon's dinner!  I think they'll probably be in there another 2 weeks til they grow a bit.

Oh by the way i treated Gordon to 2 new girlfriends. I figured that maybe there was a personality clash with gf1. I also, foolishly maybe, treated him to 2 new buddies too.  Well as you may guess he's not interested in the girls at all but does quite fancy his new mates. Their reactions have been different. One is giving Gordon a wide berth while the other decided to go macho and duff Gordon up a bit. He's fine you'll be pleased to hear and hes got the message!  Butch looks on with an amuzed look on his face and said to me 'Well at least Gordons giving me a rest for a while'. Tut you lot, i know fish cant talk, but thats what Butch would say if he could.

It's looking so nice I must see if i can get a pic for you...so you can see what all the fuss is about.

ok, Update.

Well it seems maternity services in the watery world are second to none.  Serveral midwives appear to have attended the birth and all babies (how do they all fit in one ikkle fish) were delivered alive and healthy.....but there is one fundamental problem..... the midwives it seems have a hidden agenda. They eat the babies!!

Hense my dash to the local aquatic centre to buy a nursery. I was only gone an hour, well i just had to pop into Iceland for a few bits for dinner too, but when i got home i could only see 2 babies left. Anyway I caught them easily and they are now safe and sound in their little floating nursery.

Heres to the next birth :)
