Jane over the wall
When we moved into our new house nearly 38 years ago there was a 4 foot wall dividing our garden with the one at the back. One day my two eldest daughters were playing in the garden and a little blonde head popped over the wall to watch them. My girls asked if she could come over to play in our garden and that was the start of a very long friendship. The little girl was Jane, and from that moment was always known as Jane-over-the-wall! Why I don't know, as she was the only Jane we knew at the time! I soon got to know Jane's mum Linda and she too used to climb over the wall to have coffee and a chat with me. As Jane was an only child at the time she spent many happy hours with us and was like another daughter to me, sometimes in the school holidays or weekends she would sleep at our house, very often she would have breakfast with my girls and we would all walk to school together.
Eight years ago I moved to Kent and four years ago Linda moved to Essex, the miles that now separate us have not diminished our friendship, we speak on the phone at least once a week, text each other constantly and there is absolutely nothing that we can't tell each other. We know each other's families as though we are sisters, indeed as neither of us have a blood sister it has filled that gap!
Last week Linda came to stay with me, we went shopping most days, visited my daughter Rhiannon (who is her God-daughter) and not once did we get to bed until after midnight!
A few weeks ago we had a little holiday near Great Yarmouth, Linda took her little grand-daughter and my daughter Rhiannon and her two little girls came too. We had a lovely week, it must have been one of the few weeks it didn't rain! Since we've been back the grandchildren have been sending each other little pictures they've drawn and when Isabella was in hospital Caitlin made her a get-well card!
Jane is still very friendly with my daughters even though they don't see each other that much because of work. It occurred to me last week when Linda was here that this friendship between our families could go on for many more years, not only our daughters but now our grand-daughters, it's a lovely thought!
When Rhiannon has her new baby boy in a couple of weeks time Linda will be coming down to stay again, this time with her daughter Cathryn and Cathryn's two children too. We are looking forward to it already!
Have a good day everyone! Pat

How wonderful that a friendship that started with a jump over the garden wall has managed to survive the test of time and separation! I am so glad that you were able to spend some lovely days together and that you did have sun whilst you were doing so! I think it's lovely as well that this friendship appears to have continued on through suceeding generations. How rare is that! You are all so blessed!
