Catching up.....

Good morning all!

I can't remember how long ago it was since I last posted, I should have checked.  Since we got back from America early June my time hasn't been my own, I still have journals to read from a few weeks back!

Also I've been working full-time instead of only half the week, I've really noticed it, not for much longer though, in a week's time I shall finish for the six week school holiday. At the moment I am off work with an awful back ache, I was in absolute agony at the weekend and managed to get to the doctor's on Monday.  The tablets seem to be working, it's so much easier than it was, I may be able to go back to work tomorrow, I'll see how it is.

We had a nasty scare the weekend before last. Rhiannon's eldest daughter Isabella was taken to hospital at 6am on the Saturday with breathing difficulties, she has asthma and they said it was a bad attack. Her dad Ivan stayed at home with Sofia and he called me to let me know. I went to the hospital straight away to be with Rhiannon. Poor Isabella looked dreadful, she had an oxygen mask on and her little chest was heaving up and down, she was also wired up to the heart monitor and other machines. At lunchtime Ivan came to the hospital and I took Sofia home with me, I was going to have her for the weekend so that Rhiannon and Ivan could be with Isabella.

At 7pm Rhiannon called me to say that they were moving her from the hospital (in Kent) to St Thomas's  which is a big teaching hospital in London.  Rhiannon was crying so much I could hardly make out what she was saying, I told her to get Ivan to call me, which he did.  Anyway Isabella was in the Intensive Care Unit overnight and a nurse was with them at all times, she slept right through the night and at 5am she had physio and she even slept through that!  The physiotherapist said that it was a good job she was asleep because children of that age usually fight against it.  They were then told that she had pneumonia!

The next day she was taken back to the first hospital and was so much better, she came out the next day, I can't believe how quickly children bounce back!  She had the week off pre-school and is still on medication but seems fine now, Rhiannon has to take her back for x-rays in a couple of weeks time.  When Sofia was asking Isabella about the hospital she said the best thing about it was going in the ambulance with the sirens going!  It seems like only yesterday that I mentioned in my journal that Rhiannon is expecting a boy, well the baby is due in five weeks time!

Peter is decorating their kitchen for them, well more than decorating, he's fitting a new sink, new worktops, new tiles and laying a new floor, it will look so nice once it's done. It's the last room to be done since they bought the place and it really needs doing!  The cupboards are fine so they are just going to be painted, it'll be nice to get it all done before the baby arrives.  Peter has four days off from Saturday so he'll be staying at their place and Rhiannon and the girls will be staying here for a couple of nights, I'm really looking forward to that too!  I'll update you on how the weekend went, we're going to be making cakes with the girls at some stage, should be fun!  Also on Saturday night my second daughter will be sleeping here because the Tour de France goes by near to where she lives and she won't be able to drive along that road because they close it, she is working on Sunday and wouldn't be able to get there otherwise. We'll be having a giant sleepover!!

I really must try to post more often, I won't leave it so long next time!

Love to all, Pat

So pleased to hear that Isabella recovered so quickly. What a scare! My daughter Catherine has Asthma, mostly its fairly mild but she has had a few scary moments. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that her Isabella hasn't inheritied it. At present there has been no sign of it and I think Catherine had problems at six months.

Glad Isabella is doing better.  I have a granddaughter with asthma, she has not had to go to the hospital with it yet, but it does scare me.  Seems to be alot of that now.  Sounds like you have been very busy and will be this weekend too.
Take care, Joni in the PNW

Glad Isabella is better.  What a worrying time.  Hope your back is better soon, do not rush work too fast, another couple of days would be worth it to make sure it does not return.
