Hearing Crowded House
Joke of the Day
A Stoke-on-Trent senior citizen drove his brand new BMW Z3 convertible out of the car salesroom. Taking off down the motorway, he floored it to 90 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left. "Amazing!" he thought as he flew down the M40, enjoying pushing the pedal to the metal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a police car behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring.
"I can get away from him - no problem!" thought the elderly nutcase as he floored it to 110mph, then 120, then 130mph. Suddenly, he thought, "What on earth am I doing? I'm too old for this nonsense!". So he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch up with him.
Pulling in behind him, the police officer walked up to the driver's side of the BMW, looked at his watch and said, "Sir, my shift ends in 10 minutes. Today is Friday and I'm taking off for the weekend. If you can give me a reason why you were speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."
The man, looked very seriously at the policeman, and replied,
"Years ago, my wife ran off with a policeman. I thought you werebringing her back."
"Have a good day, Sir," said the policeman
Pure fantasy of course....any one who is familiar with the traffic and roads around Stoke-on-Trent, knows you could never reach those sort of speeds! 35 mph tops!

A quick January re-cap
I've had a busy month and have been neglecting this journal for my other ones!
But here goes January:
First and foremost, G started school! He is now going full days and enjoying it, although he is not enjoying the lunches....but it's tough, he can't live on pasta alone and he needs to learn that! It went quite smoothly, although I cried all morning, off and on.
J's 8th birthday came and went. She had a pyjama party sleepover for 3 of her friends and all went well! I survived to tell the tale, so it must have gone ok!
I celebrated, or not, as the case may be, my 43rd birthday. As each year goes by, I seem to get less and less cards, but hey, that's life. I am the worst one for staying in touch, so it's my fault really! I did get a lovely birthday cake and the kids helped me blow out the candles.
I stopped smoking too! I started again when me and M split up...I'd stopped for ages up until then and always berated myself for starting again, in a moment of weakness. So, one Friday, I finished my packet of baccy and stopped...no probs at all! I feel much better, even if just psychologically and probably look better too!
I was contacted on my birthday by an old and special friend, which was like a birthday and Christmas in one. He had traced me via Google and my other blog and I am over the moon. It has been very emotional though,as I hear about his life on the other side of the world. It has opened up many thoughts and memories and, to be honest is quite difficult! But, I have tried to trace him on numerous occaisions, unsuccesfully, so it is really good to hear from him, it never felt right not knowing where he was. Some people just will not drop out of your thoughts and dreams....he is like that for me...so it is very special that he has resurfaced!
Off now...it's good to be back!
Have a good day

New Year's just around the corner....

....time to take stock.
It's been a roller-coaster of a year for me.
I started it worrying about the court case and at the eleventh hour, M dropped out, in effect giving me permission to move to France with the kids. This has been the first Christmas for 2 years without the stress and unpleasantness hanging over me and as a consequence, was the best Christmas in a long while. I even invited M down on Christmas Eve, which meant he was there in the morning at the crack of dawn to share the pressie opening with them. It was lovely and we are now on much better terms. So that's a result. And I did manage to buy some presents in the end....so much for all that worrying! They're right, there's no point worrying at all....what happens will happen!
J turned 7 in January and is a beautiful, intelligent and smart girl....she will run rings around me when she gets older! G turned 4 in June and is due to start school in just over a week. I can't believe how quickly he is growing and I am sure I will shed a few tears as I wave him off on the Monday! I am just so thankful that I had the opportunity to watch him grow up for the last few years...something I missed with J due to working full-time.
I started blogging in earnest in May, I think it was. I have made many J-land friends and have really been bitten by the blogging bug. I have now quite a few set-up, including this one and a Beauregard blog for the gite business. It has been a great way for me to escape the routine of my life when needed and it has been wonderful learningand being mentally stimulated. I'd forgotten how exciting it can be!
At times the news has been extremely worrying and as VampJack says, it becomes all the more worrying when you have children. But, rather than give in to the Doom and Gloom brigade, I have realised that there is little more than I can do except live my life in an honest and positive way. I do what I can to recycle etc. I try my hardest to be upbeat and positive. I know that there are many more decent and kind people out in the world than there are rotters and that knowledge itself is a great comfort.
So, Happy New Year to you all. I have really enjoyed your company, comments, reading your blogs and I do value you all as friends. I hope 2007 brings you happiness, health and love.

Mad Cow Disease

I notice on the AOL Welcome page that the article on page 2 is about Mad Cow Disease and that the link below refers to Heather Mills McCartney representing herself in court.
Do you think this is an attempt by AOL at humour? Or just unfortunate serendipity?Naughty AOL!

First mince pie of the Christmas season

For pudding today, I had my firstest mince pie of the season. I have since followed it with another, so it looks as if Phoenix has entered into the spirit of things at last! Hoorah!
Having just read the Wikipedia definition of a mince pie, I didn't make a wish, so I shall do it now, with my fingers crossed for extra luck!
And I'm glad I'm not eating a mince pie in the 17th century.....don't fancy it with chopped liver in!
And I thought that stirring it clockwise for luck was for Christmas pudding, not mince pies?
Anyway, a fascinating insight into mince pies for you all! Hope you enjoy..

Feeling Chillin'
This'll make ya laugh!

Doing the office rounds again!
SMART ASS ANSWER #6 It was mealtime during a flight on Hooters Airline. "Would you like dinner?" the flight attendant asked John, seated in front. "What are my choices?" John asked. "Yes or no," she replied.
SMART ASS ANSWER #5 A flight attendant was stationed at the departure gate to check tickets. As a man approached, she extended her hand for the ticket and he opened his trench coat and flashed her. Without missing a beat, she said, "Sir, I need to see your ticket not your stub."
SMART ASS ANSWER #4 A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store but She couldn't find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, "Do these turkeys get any bigger?" The stock boy replied, "No ma'am, they're dead."
SMART ASS ANSWER #3 The cop got out of his car and the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. "I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said. The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could." When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.
SMART ASS ANSWER #2 A truck driver was driving along on the freeway. A sign comes up that Reads, " Low Bridge Ahead." Before he knows it, the bridge is right ahead Of him and he gets stuck under the bridge. Cars are backed up for miles. Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets out of his car and walks to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says, "Got stuck, h uh?" The truck driver says, "No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of gas."
SMART ASS ANSWER OF THE YEAR 2006 A college teacher reminds her class of tomorrow's final exam. "Now class, I won't tolerate Any excuses for you not being here tomorrow. I might consider a nuclear attack or a serious personal injury, illness, or a death in your immediate family, but that's it, no other excuses whatsoever!" A smart-ass guy in the back of the room raised his hand and asked, "What would you say if tomorrow I said I was suffering from complete and utter sexual exhaustion?" The entire class is reduced to laughter and snickering. When silence is restored, the teacher smiles knowingly at the student, shakes her head and sweetly says,
"Well, I guess you'd have to write the exam with your other hand."

Feeling Quiet
Christmas is not the best time to be bankrupt
OK,I've got the grots at the moment. Christmas is but 3 weeks away and my bank statement came thru the post today, full of good cheeryness and hope....NOT!
I have basically nothing to get me to and thru Christmas and I am now so worried that it ain't gonna happen! OK...maybe I am being melodramatic but I am worried.
I have told everyone not to expect an all-singing-all-dancing Christmas this year. ( I seem to recall saying this every year!) Each year we say we will just enjoy being together, we will enjoy the traditional family Christmas, we will sing songs and do charades, we will forego the mountains of superfluous food, we will enter into the spirit of things with a satsuma and a few figs! But, somehow, we always pull through; the kids get their pressies, we all get merry and have a great time....but I still worry about it!
It doesn't help having 24/7 adverts for toys, toys and more toys. No wonder our children are the way they are...it's verging on immoral the way they are brainwashed and conditioned at a very tender age to buy into the 'happiness and contentment is only achieved through product x, y or z' culture. With all the will in the world, us parents face a tough deal, trying to imbue our kids with an independant, healthy, high self-esteem ethos, with all the commercialism crashing around us. We build 'em up, so they can knock 'em down!
Talking of adverts, I was watching one the other day. It had the sophistication and chic of a top-of the range Mercedes or Audi advert. Turns out it was an advert for a razor...bloody Gillette or something. They must have poured thosands of dollars into it...just to sell a razor that sells for under £10! Mad!
So, if you don't hear from me for a while, it's because I've gone into terminal Christmas decline and I'm hibernating under my duvet for the next 4 weeks. However, if I can find my nipple tassels, I may look for the Barnet red-light area to see if I can raise a few bob!(About all I'd raise...ha, ha!)

Ok, I'm off to take me curlers out now.
Night night
