Another sunny day, but high cloud is moving up from the south. Torrential rain has brought extensive flooding to the English Midlands and Yorkshire. Three soldiers are missing after falling into a river near Catterick.
No hurricane updates for a week now, as there are no hurricanes. However, those in Hurricane Alley should not let their guard down; watch the Caribbean over the next day or so.
The longest tunnel on land has been opened in Switzerland. The Lötschberg tunnel, 34 km or 21 miles in length, is a railtunnel, which acts as an important link in the European rail network. I happen to know this stretch of railway very well, having visited the town of Brig a few times as a teenager. The old railway used to spiral up the mountains, only boring through a tunnel for the last stretch. The new one leads from Frutigen in the north, just south of Spiez, to Raron in the south, which is a hop and a step west of Brig. The railway continues south of Brig through the Simplon tunnel into Italy.
A parallel tunnel, under the Gotthard pass, is under construction, due for completion in 2015. The object is to take freight off the road and onto rails.

Well we have had a wild and wooly night last night Guido. The rain has let up for a moment here in the Lakes but the skies tell another story is about to transpire soon.
How shocking to hear of the young soldiers who have gone missing in the river near Catterick. God love them and their families!
I will pray for them until I hear different.
That's a gigantic tunnel! What wonders man can build. It will be strange for passengers to travel through there.

I live about 15 minutes away from Catterick Garrison and i have not heard this news i hope and pray they are found safe, the rain storms have been pretty bad over night and we are to get more down today. Thank you for keeping us updated. love and hugs
