Dangerous dogs

Over the past week or so, there have been a number of attacks by large dogs on small children. Tragically, in one of these attacks, in Leicester, England, a young baby was killed. The animals involved in this incident were destroyed. The dog that attacked a young child was not put down, as it was described as not being dangerous by its owner. I found it beyond belief that one owner didn't think their dog was dangerous, even after it mauled a young child. I would almost argue that any dog that mauls a child should be put down, as it is dangerous to people.

Young children and babies should never be let around dogs without supervision.  Even a "friendly" dog could attack if accidentally provoked by a child.

In an entry in my archives called Playwrights abound..I have reprinted the story my grandson, 9, wrote after he had been bitten in the face by a dog, part pit bull, spending 7 days in the hospital.  The circumstances under which he was bitten certainly go to show no child should be left alone with a big dog, particularly one that is part pit bull who are known for their attacks on humans, cats, etc, when loose. His owner thought it would be all right for Dante to go in the backyard alone and play, where the dog was loose.  His mother did not go with him.   Gerry

I have to agree with the other two comments, I would never leave my dog alone with my baby grandson despite his lovely nature.

We have several cities here that have outlawed 'certain' breeds. If they find one they fine the owner & destroy the dog. ANY breed can be dangerous, it's the way their raised that is mostly to blame...altho certain breeds do have more of an instinct to be viscious. But I think ANY & ALL animals should be watched closer by their owners.
    Just my point of view...;0)
