Mort once we were anchored off spithead, took the RR/underground to London.  I ended up near Picadilly, in some building that had 9 floors with a bar on each floor.  Had a wonderful conversation with a VERY Proper and polished GENTLEMAN,  black suit, white shirt and umbrella.. Had some job in or with Parliment.  Why he chose to join a couple US sailors I do not know.  He was very nice, bought us a couple drinks.  With tears in his eyes said the United Kingdom ruled the world for many years, land and sea.  "Now it is your time laddies,  as time goes on you, the USA,  will find it is a tough position."
It was a pleasant evening, must have been in the 60's.  The conversation covered the world.  HA!  as you can imagine.
Anyway many Americans have no idea why we celebrate the fourth,  to most it is a day off from work and time for a party.
Thanks for the well wishes from that side of the Pond.  I loved England, want to get back for a visit one day and see more than the South WEst.
Bless you and Mum there.   .............  Jack
