I found a magazine laying around at work that I would not have bought had I seen it in the shops: Britain at War magazine is not going to get on my subscription list. However, as I had finished reading that day’s Guardian and my novel - All Quiet on the Western Front by coincidence - I decided to have a flick through.
There is an advert on the inside cover for a fan club and a website address for - wait for it - Vulcan to the Sky Club! For a mere £24 pound I can receive two magazines and four newsletters each year. Needless to say, I would be mad to part with my hard earned cash (granted, I do spend most of my time at work reading) to join this club. That is just what I have done.
I was aware after reading the fantastic Vulcan 607 last year that a group was trying to get a Vulcan back in the air: I was unaware until this morning just how close we are to seeing this truly majestic and record-breaking aeroplane once more at air shows across the land.
Vulcan XH558 has undertaken two test flights this month with a third - and hopefully - final test flight scheduled any time now. This group is planning to have the Vulcan back at air shows this summer; worth £24 of anybody’s money in my opinion.
