Tutorial on the Sunburst Effect
Technique By DesignsbyMark
Photoshop 6, 7 & Elements
Open photo by file/open & make sure layers window is showing.
Go to menu/Window/layers
go to layers window & duplicate layer, so you have a copy of the original.
click on the copy layer, which it the top layer
GO to image/ adjustment/threshold move lever to right or left depending on the amount of light you want. hit OK
Filter/blur/Radial blur setting-AMOUNT high all the way to the right
Blur method-ZOOM quality-GOOD
BLUR CENTER should be moved to where you want the blur to be, or come from. This is hard to explain. you will have to play with it. You click in the center & hold down to move the center point, on mine I moved it towards the top where the light is coming from, above the top/rt. you will see once you do it. you keep trying till you get it right. You can edit/undo or use history to undo.
then set blending mode for the layer on the layer's window.
each photo is different, so I would try which ever one that looks good for that photo.
On this one I used OVERLAY. You can then use the eraser to take away rays you don't want, like in the water. But in this case I left it b/c it looked fine, but if I used a different mode I probably would have erased it.
File/Save As/ Photoshop doc or JPG.
I always use the SAVE AS,so I always have a copy of the original.
Email me if you have any questions.
If you are not ready for this technique, I would copy & paste this for later use....; )
If anyone is interested in doing this tut this week on a photo. Post your results on your Journal & leave a link here.

Hi Marie,
Thanks for stopping by my journal. You really have to excuse any photos I have posted over there, they are all cell phone shots - Ugh! ~ I don't think it gets much worse than that! A nice digital is on my list and so is photoshop. I guess I just found out where to come for help once I get everything! Your photography is beautiful!
