Four things ....

Sometimes you have a morning when you just can't think of anything much to write.  My boss is returning today and so I have alot on my mind workwise perhaps and I have to get out of here early as I have to do some shopping for the big house so I thought I'd do something fun this morning and fill out one of those e-mail forward thingies that I save in my e-mail to do at a later date and then never get around to filling in....maybe that's why I haven't won the lottery yet...the good luck fairies have passed me by because I have failed to send these on and spread the good news....they said something rotten would happen if I didn't....

Four jobs I’ve had:

* Wife and mother (who says it isn't a job?)
* store clerk in a jewelry store (My very first job...16 years old and the pervert boss used to turn off all the lights and chase me out of the store on Friday nights trying to grab me)
* cleaner in a Senior's Residential Home (the toilets after curry night were...well...don't ask, just don't ask....)
* Secretary  (Zzzzzzzzz...)

Four movies I can watch over and over:

* Gone With The Wind  (You just can't help loving Scarlett O'Hara, even if she was a hopelessly selfish b****)
* The Wizard of Oz  (I love the music and the characters...and when she opens the door after landing in Oz and the picture turns to colour...it is magic, just plain magic)
* Love Actually (Ok, I am a hopeless romantic)
* Our Vines Have Tender Grapes  ( I  love cheesy old movies that have Margaret O'Brian in them)

Four places I have lived:

* Baden Baden, Germany (beautiful place, good food and great CAKE)

* Gimli, Manitoba (I go back there often in my head)
* Calgary, Alberta  (An over grown cow town)
* London, Ontario  (and they even have a Thames River)

Four television shows I love to watch:

* Delia's Summer Collection
* Delia's How to Cook
* Delia's Winter Collection
* Gary Rhodes in any way shape or form  (tell me you're not surprised!)

Four places I have been on vacation:

* Prince Edward Island, Canada (Home of Anne of Green Gables)
* The Dordogne, South of France  (very very quiet....)
* The Black Forest, Germany  (great food and CAKE)
* Cumbria (easily the most beautiful place on the planet, and home of sticky toffee pudding...need I say more?)

Four of my favorite dishes:

* Macaroni and Cheese...full of cheese, lots of cheese... with a crunchy buttery top
* Enchiladas with lots of chilies and sauce and pepper jack cheese, oodles of cheese and a huge smearing of sour cream on top, with chopped spring onions and lots of chopped black olives
*   butter friend perogies...with tons of fried onions and sour cream on top
* Pizza, loaded with black olives, hot peppers, cheese, onions, salami, pepperoni and ooodles of bacon (can you tell I'm on a diet yet?)

Four websites I visit daily:

* www.recipezaar.com  (I'm a food addict in case you haven't guessed by now)
* www.dooce.com   (this has to be the best blog on the planet, but I'm not sure why)
* www.gofugyourself.com  (Those ladies crack me up....I know they are nasty, but I can't help myself..I am drawn there like a moth to a flame)
* http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/  (I know...I'm a nerd...even if it is bucketing down outside...I need to see what the weather is going to be in black and white...I live in hope that the sun will come out)

Four places I would rather be right now:

* laying on the deck of a cruise liner somewhere in the mediterranean supping on a Shirley Temple  (the drink!  not the lady)
* In a cafe in Paris eating a pastry, drinking a hot chocolate and watching the world walk by.
* Draped in the front passenger seat of a jaguar driving on a winding road on the French Riviera...."Oh James..you do say the sweetest things...."  (a girl can dream can't she?)

* Standing in the Camelot Offices in London as they hand me my latest winning check from the lottery and being told that there's been a mistake...I didn't win 2.2 million pounds...I actually won 222.2 million pounds. (See above...)

Four bloggers I am tagging:

* You.
* And you.
* And you, too!
* I'm tagging all of you!  But hey...it's a heck of a lot better than a chainletter!

I have to go, now. Gary Rhodes might be cooking on the telly somewhere...

And now, just to tease your tastebuds...something outrageously delicious...proving that sometimes simple really is best....

*Hot Diggity Dogs*

Serves 4

These hot dogs were the reason all the kids in the neighbourhood lined up outside our door begging for an invite to supper when I was growing up. Nobody made a hotdog like my mom…

8 smoked frankfurters

4 finger buns

Softened butter

1 very large onion

Ketchup, Sweet Relish and honey mustard to garnish

Turn the oven on quite low…just high enough to keep something warm without actually cooking it.

Take the finger buns and split down the middle horizontally down the top side, not quite through all the way. Butter generously with softened butter on both bready sides where they have been touching each other in the package. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium high heat and place the finger buns in, buttered side to the pan and brown well on the first side, flip over to the other buttered side and pressing down with the spatula to flatten slightly brown the other side. Remove and keep warm in the oven.

With a sharp knife split the frankfurters down through the middle, again not quite all the way through. Spread open and put cut side down into the hot frying pan and grill until crispy brown, flip over and do the same with the other side. Remove and keep warm in the oven.

Peel and slice the onion as thinly as you can. Melt about a TBS of butter in the heated skillet and fry the sliced onions in it until they are softened, slightly browned on the edges and very fragrant.

Open the grilled buns and spread with the fried onions. Divide the grilled hot dogs between the buns and top with your favourite toppings. I like sweet relish and honey mustard, but a lot of people love catsup. I could eat two of these…but I won’t….

PS.  the opening picture is a picture of the gardens where I live taken last summer.

    I really enjoy reading your blog, and have had time in the past few weeks to catch up on all the previous entries. You are a lovely writer Marie. I live in Scotland and since a young girl have dreamed of visiting Prince Edward Island all thanks to Reading Anne of Green Gables. I have three daughters who have all enjoyed the video of the tv adaptation. Maybe one day if I also win the lottery I can take them to visit my dream destination.
