To Meat or not to Meat...

Recently my husband and I have made a decision to eat less meat.  We are not planning on becoming Vegetarians, per se, but just want to cut back on things that may not be so good for us.  The more I read about the practices of meat and poultry producers and how really disgusting the whole industry is the less enamoured I am of meat in general.  I think a good piece of free range organic anything once in a while is far preferable to what is generally on offer, even if it is twice the cost.  Last night I cooked my first Vegetarian entree!  And it was delicious.  Sweet and Sour Cabbage Rolls with Sauerkraut.  Recipe# 60819 on www.recipezaar.com  .   Husband scarfed it down and was smacking his lips at the end!  They really did have a wonderful flavour and the meat wasn't missed at all.  Of course I did leave out the sauerkraut as Todd isn't really fond of that stuff (even if I am).  and in it's place just shredded extra cabbage and added a TBS of white vinegar.  I loved the nutty flavour of the brown rice and the sunflower seeds.  The raisins went surprisingly well as did the cinnamon.  We REALLY REALLY enjoyed this.  And there are two leftover in the fridge that have MY name on them, haha.

Todd wasn't really sure about this vegetarian idea.  He already tried that, years ago, in a previous life, with another wife and he didn't enjoy it at all.  He thought it was boring. Perhaps the missus wasn't inventive enough.  All the veggie food I have looked at looks delicious and inviting.  The Word of Wisdom says to eat mostly grains, seeds and vegetables and meat sparingly, and to be honest, most of the time when I eat meat these days I feel a bit ill afterwards.  I reckon if a person held to the Word of Wisdom and did eat mostly grains, seeds and vegetables and kept the meat to a mimimum you would be eating as close as you could to the way Adam and Eve ate in the Garden of Eden, and that doesn't sound like a bad thing.  I'll still be a sucker for a nicely grilled steak though with mushrooms, onions and baked potato, salad on the side please!  Make mine a filet!
