Brockwell Park Lido
IT’S supposed to be the happiest, but soon tying the knot could also be the splashiest day of your life.
The bride will have the option of swimming up the aisle if Brockwell Park Lido is granted a wedding licence.
The outdoor pool in Herne Hill has applied to Lambeth council for permission to host marriages.
And wedding rings could be swapped for rubber rings if the town hall approves the application.
Jeremy Lake, Lido manager, said: “We’ve had several couples say they met and fell in love at the Lido and would like to get married here – we thought, ‘What a great idea’.
“It’s such a unique venue. Nowhere else has the beautiful combination of our iconic pool and the surrounding refurbished art deco buildings.
"All in all it is a fun but appropriate location for a ceremony”.
The pool will have to temporarily drop its strict “No Petting” rule when the groom kisses the bride.
For couples who don’t fancy going to the chap-pool and getting married there are other unusual places to tie the knot in Lambeth.
The London Eye has had a licence since April 2006.
And it needn’t be just the bride wearing white.
As of June 18 this year, cricket lovers can get hitched at the pavilion of the Oval cricket ground in Kennington.
Strangest of all, Dali Universe – the South Bank tribute to the Spanish surrealist painter – has held a marriage licence since June 2006.
No one has so far opted to have their ceremony performed among his bizarre works, although a reception was held there last year.
Just over the borough border in Wandsworth those wanting nautically themed nuptials can book at the Battersea Barge, just off Nine Elms Lane by the river.
The De Morgan Centre in Wandsworth Town Centre, which hosts an art collection, also had its licence reviewed in January this year.
Three pubs in the borough were also granted marriage licences.
