Dear KA member,
John Roberts, KA committee member, has asked the Kennington Assn to e-mail the following statement out as he has some concerns about organisations using our generosity and contacts for purposes that are not in line with our own aims and objectives.
"The Kennington Assn, is a voluntary organisation that is actively run by volunteers and as such we can not always quality assure the information that is requested for us to send out. Therefore we would like to remind members that we are only as good as the information that we get in. Members should take up their own personal checks before undertaking the services or requests from other organisations. We do endeavour to undertake our own quality assurance checks but we as an organisation cannot be responsible if something goes wrong. We have undertaken a review of information on e-mails that we send out so that we can get as much information from the organisation as possible, i.e. charity status, contact details, references, etc. However as some of you may have read in the press or seen on TV news, there are people out there that may not be who they seem.
For example if anyone has had a bad experience using an organisation that is recommended by another member we need to know, so we can inform others. Also if people know of a scam that is targeting our members then we need to know. We do not want to be alarmists but we just want to reiterate that members have personal responsibilities. It was only a few weeks ago I gave away a lot of my old clothes and shoes to a door charity collector (or so I thought) until I found out that is might have been a scam and the clothes were being sent to eastern Europe to be sold."
