Health and Fitness celebration at the Royal Festival Hall

(9th & 10th June 2007)

Dear Tai Chi UK practitioners,

We have been invited to celebrate the transformation and reopening of the Royal Festival Hall after being closed for two years, the management is planning a unique event with thousands of performers taking part from dusk on Friday 8th to dusk on Sunday 10th June 2007.

Re-interpreting the creativity, optimism, inclusive ideals and fun presented by the Festival of Britain in 1951 when the Royal Festival Hall had its opening, the weekend will make a new statement about the RFH as a 21st century cultural leader.

June 9th and 10th will be a continuous 48-hour ceremony in which the Royal Festival Hall auditorium, foyers and external terraces will be alive with thousands of artists and performers of all ages from diverse backgrounds and artistic traditions all celebrating the history and rebirth.   Performers will represent communities from across the country.

On June 9 and 10, from 8 am till 10 am, all the public terraces and the Ballroom will be filled with Tai Chi and other activities. Members of the public will be free to participate and join in.

I would like you to join me and represent your group at these 2-hour sessions. The more people you could bring with you, the better.

The whole idea is not just that it will be an impressive sight to see all these people exercising around the building, but especially that anyone from the general public, of all ages and abilities, feels free to join in.

The standard should be very basic, but we will include a short demonstration in the session.

Please contact me to confirm that you can make it.
