St Patrick’s Day – Number Two – The real one

After not having much sleep the night before, we woke up to a brisk, spring day and made our way back to Chicago’s to meet up with the lads, who had gone there early to get the gear.

When we got to Watford it was a lovely day – sunshine and blue skies all round – and, while you can see in these pics how excited Dave was about it, Andrea got out to test the temperature and found it was – contrary to appearances – still a bit on the chilly side.

After parking up, we all went in search of food, reluctantly bypassing La Tasca and ending up in the nearest Wetherspoons (cheaper option – and you get bigger portions, anyway), while Sadie made a start on the local shops, returning some time later with some interesting swimsuits.

After food, we went to an internet café for a bit, and found little leaflets shaped like shamrocks… with our faces on them…. Aaaaaarrrrrrrgh! Ha ha ha

After the internet, Andrea and I went for a walk in Watford Centre and, after a nice trot around TJ Hughes’s, came upon that treasure of all treasure troves – Primark. Got some great stuff and happily returned to Chicago Rock to admire my purchases.

Sadie was still in the internet café, and Derek and Dave had gone to the van for a kip, and pretty soon Andrea got word that some pals had arrived in the area, so I settled myself down to catch up on much-needed kip while I had the dressing room all to myself. I didn’t manage to sleep, however, and soon enough the DJ had to kick-start Paddy’s Day so I gave up the ghost (of a chance of sleep) when I heard the third B*Witched song, amongst all other Irish party tunes.

When Sadie got back to Chicago’s, we set ourselves up something of a picnic in the dressing room with vodka-redbull and Pringles, and started to get ready for the gig. Andrea burst back in like a St Patrick’s Themed Tasmanian Devil, having had two of the things which make her most happy – Italian food, and wine – and for a while the dressing room was something of a mini-party as everyone pilied in and Derek and Dave returned from the van.

We always have a great gig at Watford Chicago Rock, and this night was no exception. The place absolutely rocked and we had a great time onstage, with funny moments as always (such as our ‘Corrds’ banner falling down on Andrea).

After the set we had a couple of drinks with Anna, her boyfriend and his friend, and then it was time for us to head homeward to our own beds. On the way out we found our great little mate who always comes to see us at Watford, however this night he had had to work, as he’s also one of the doorstaff there, so he missed the show, and we didn’t catch him until we were on our way out. So here’s a nice pic. And the last pic is of Sadie, gaining an admirer in the form of Guiseppe – who Andrea picked up in the Italian restaurant earlier on. I like this picture - Sadie is speaking Italian, and the groovy little guy seems really chuffed.

Phone troubles put behind us, we had a great St Patrick’s Gig, and so did everyone else in Chicago Rock, apparently. Job done… until tomorrow and the next day!
