Feeling Frustrated
Anybody with an ounce of common sense will realise that building four storey blocks of flats on the old Jarmin Road site is a dig at a certain influential individual who lives in that vicinity. These buildings will be taller than any other buildings in the area, will be pokey inside and crammed together outside, and ultimately destined to become slums - as nobody but the poorest of folk will end up living in them. But then what's new? Public opinion is overwhelmingly against what the Town Hall string pullers are allowing to be built in our town, judging by the numerous letters to the press. This is all about profit. There is no profit in building schools, providing park and ride facilities, making public transport viable, etc. The whole thing stinks in my opinion. We are back in the 18th century it seems, when Colchester lost its Royal charter because of the corrupt activities that were going on. What we clearly need is a change of direction.
