Just Because it's Tuesday
So, I'm counting calories, swigging water and being a complete pain about everything I eat. I'm bored already. The Flying Dutchman who seems to be able to lose weight at the thought of doing exercise informs me after his 3 days of cycling in France he had dropped 1.5kg. About the same amount I picked up from eating, drinking beer and lounging on the beach in Alicante over the weekend, but hey, what a way to hit detox.
I went to Alicante with Claire, Antoinette and Fiona and stayed at this lovely hotel where we upgraded to suites. You could do a lot worse! We were right next to the beach so every morning after eating my body weight in food at the breakfast buffet (all in prep for the impeding detox) I would head out and swim up and down the coast for 40 mins. The water was a little chilly in places but being out there was incredible. It is so much nicer being out in the open than looking at the bottom of a pool. I am my own worse enemy when it comes to what I think about when I swim, I saw a picture at the photography wildlife exhibition recently of a shark taken off the coast of Alicante. Antoinette also told me about a kid who died in Aus after a shark attack a few weeks ago. It was taking all of my mental strength to stay in there. Rationally I know I am not going to be attacked my a shark, but I couldn't help but try and calculate how long it would take me to swim the 100m to the shore without a limb. OK, OK, maybe I am being a little dramatic :)
Corinna is doing the race for life tonight so I am going to pull on my running shoes and run down there to support her. It has been a while since she has done a race, I'm really excited for her! It is also a cause I feel strongly about having had cancer touch the people in my life a few times. I haven't picked my charity race for this year, I do 1 a year for a different cause. The year I lost my baby nephew Zach, I ran for Bliss who do research into premature babies. www.bliss.org.uk I don't think it is fair to hit people up for lots of cash each year so I try and pick the smaller races where a couple of hundred pounds is the target rather than thousands and circulate through the contacts list. I often pick a cancer charity but have also run for the Gorilla's. I haven't had a Gorilla touch my life, but I did have a great time dressing up in a Gorilla suit and running around the streets of London. I put my own twist on the gorilla suit and paired it with a red polka dot bikini :)
I'm racing this weekend at the Richmond half marathon. The goal is a sub 1.35, the closer to 1.30 the better :) After an easy week I ran a 45min 10km yesterday, that was including stopping at lights so would be closer to 41 I think. I feel good at the moment, I am hoping I can hold pace at the half. I need to get back on track after missing my 3:15 target at Valencia marathon by 6 mins and then having my 25mile time trial cancelled because of snow. Race season is really getting under way now, 25th may is my first tri of the season out at Dorney lake. Looking forward to that!
My niece Bellah has started to walk, I was beginning to worry about her sporting career, she turns 2 at the end of May so she was being a lazy girl and not getting up and walking on her own. I have been buying her running shoes for a year already! What do they say about pushy parents, in this case pushy aunties are worse!
My next challenge is to find some sponsors. I am specifically going to target bike sponsors, I have some great media exposure coming up soon so want to try and get a deal in place before then. Email me or leave some comments on this blog with any suggestions!
Take care
Carolyn xx
