Lol I know HTML has a dedicated 'Web Building' board. My point was, that there used to be a U.K. ED board.
HTML's board is for general Web Building (which, I will I'm sure will include ED, though the title gives no mention of this).
I had a job tracking down the ED U.S. board (and I know where to look <g>).
I appreciate your frustration, as I know you have put in a lot of time and effort into helping people (including me) over the years.
I'm sure, if there could have been definitive answer from the Community Team, you would have had it by now.
At least your concerns have been noted and passed on.

    Hallo Jan,

..........Martin, AOL UK hasn't had an Easy Designer Message board in years? Are you talking about the U.S. boards?...........
Don't tell UKLeaderHTML that, or you may make him cry. The UK ED board is little used as most users, not all, know to post messages on the American based board. We get messages from all over the world, mostly you cannot tell, but I have off board contact and know what countries members are posting from. Like many of the UK boards you post on in the UK, there are American posters who do not realise that they are on a UK board. AOL have greyed the distinction as to location of many boards and many are now international. The fact is this post may be on a board based on a proxy server in Germany, you will never know unless someone tells you.

.............I always 'assumed' that any problems with ED were U.S. based?...............
Like everything AOL. ALL AOL is based on the main server in the USA. The output and software used is passed out to the various 'Proxy' servers AOL have all over the world. I think there is one 'Proxy' based up in the north of England somewhere and also in Ireland, where the call centre is.

In the case of ED. UK members will be connected to the UK proxy and all software processes will happen there. The proxy will connect at set intervals to the US server and update the base data.

The same process happens from US to UK, that is why it all fails for us a few days later than in America. A bad software update is not written from the US server to the UK proxy for about two days. I can be a longer or shorter period.

    Martin.

    Hello Richard,

.....Sorry Martin, I can't understand your negativity about the blog or the community team........
In essence, it is because they pour out the same pointless contact this and that Live Help and telephone numbers information, saying these are the places to report such things and really ALL us members know that is pointless.

.........As mark has said, they're not technical support staff, but he has passed on your comments.........
I know and that excuse is used by every department in AOL to pass the buck. I accept they personally may have no technical knowledge, but they are supposed to sort out Community Issues. ED not functioning, is a community issue.

...............If Easy Designer is unreliable, why not use one of the free HTML programs such as NVU and upload the finished product to your web space..............
This has nothing to do with me using any product to make web pages. I write code directly in HTML. Easy Designer is an AOL product which is constantly failing. You cannot edit ED made pages easily, once made (without the ED editing applet), in any other product. So those who rely on the connection to the ED service and also do not know how to use other types of HTML editors, have no other option other than using ED.

You must know I run a help site for Easy Designer problems, which form comments made to me has been far more help to AOL members than any of AOL's supposed support representatives. However, with the current ED access problem, even my help pages do not have a solution to use.

Also. Finding that currently every AOL department and staff member is passing the buck and doing absolutely nothing, I decided to pass on the general feelings of AOL members who have contacted me directly and posted post on the ED message boards.

This message thread just happened to end up in the AIM blog, but it gained the required attention result.

    Martin.

    Martin said:

If YOU were to actually read the comments made on the AOL ED message boards, you will find that after wasting peoples time Live Help indicate it is nothing to do with them and say to contact the usual telephone number. Then when you call India, they do the same and say to contact Live Help.

    Thanks for your feedback, Martin.

Having been an AOL user and staffer for many years (and remembering back to a time well before products like Easy Designer or AIMPages), I can reassure you that we do take feedback very seriously - and use it to help develop and improve our products.

I regret that I'm unable to assist you with your particular query further via this avenue of communication, but please do feel free to contact AOL Technical support with any queries or email AOLUKCommunities with any community-related query.

    - Mark
