Centenary celebration

Hi everyone

The centenary celebration weekend is seriously under preparation under new chairman Gary Lobb and its going to have to be delayed until July

With the floodlights being installed there are hazards for little kids and Gary wants to make it a weekend to remember and thats not possible in the time we have left

Did anyone hear my daughter talking to Gabby Logan on Five Live yesterday ? Liz says they were talking about Dartmouth AFC. As Terry Yorath was Gabby's dad, I assume Skippy Smith, Neil Patey and other Leeds fans might be interested

If any of you did hear it, was she being complimentary to Benny and the lads, and are either of them coming down here for the Centenary weekend celebrations?

Travelling the SW football region

Hi Everyone

Dartmouth is having to consider how to get to the best SW Peninsula away games next season.

After considering the different options, including British Rail economy weekend breaks, I've settled on hiring Carl Throgmorton's Huey helicopter. How about splitting the cost Carl ?

Cornwall eat your heart out. When Dartmouth AFC arrive at your swanky football stadia next season, it will be by courtesy of the Air Cavalry and Wagner

Floodlights arrive

We took delivery yesterday of the floodlight pylons and our contractors are aiming to have the installation complete by June 6th

The 50' pylons had an interesting trip to Dartmouth leaving from Kingfisher Forgemasters in Mansfield and travelling round the narrow roads of South Hams on a huge transporter.

At one stage they could not be unloaded into the Longcross ground and spent the night in the Park and Ride so that Sportslighting could assemble the heavy lifting gear to do this

Thanks to Dave Duffy for masterminding this. I cant wait to see them erected and for our first evening game of the new season when we plan to have a celebratory switching on ceremony

Dartmouth's new England star

Sam Churchill lives locally and has just been signed by Jamie Bennelick for Dartmouth AFC whilst he completes his studies at South Devon College

The 19 year old centre mid fielder has played for Bideford and Plymouth Argyle and is set on a career in professional football

Selected for England schoolboys, he sets out on the England tour of Spain and Portugal on May 8th and needs to raise local sponsorship for the trip

Liz Boughton wife of the ex chairman of Dartmouth AFC is seen presenting a cheque to the lad and wishing him well

Dear Friends

I have had to step down next season as club Chairman and the illustrious Mr Gary Lobb is your new Chairman, ably assisted by a new President, Dave Duffy. Hopefully they will not have to grapple with the serious issues I had to, and football will become more fun again. To those of you who e mailed with kind comments, I'm remaining on the committee and will see to it that the price of beer remains the lowest in Dartmouth.

Your new blogger will be the talented Neil Patey and he tells me that next season he will be assisted by 3 high tech boffins who will be seeking to extend and improve my own amateur coverage of the last 12 months

To mark the club's Centenary I've written a little book called "100 years of football in Dartmouth". It's to be published shortly and if you want a copy it might be wise to book one in advance

Dartmouth AFC 2 Tavistock 1

With players out of the team today for various reasons Jamie played the 2 youngsters again and they gradually ran the legs off a Tavistock side that has some classy players

But we went in 1-0 down at half time from a goal Warren Stainer saved but trickled over the line

In the second half we gradually got on top and Kevin somehow found enough space among 6 Tavistock players to turn and hammer in the equaliser

From then on Tavistock lost their discipline and 3 of their players did the early walk to the dressing room

With the game spoiled we failed to capitalise on the acres of space that opened up until young Jordan Havelin held off big defenders to hook the ball into the net from short range

On what was a brilliant Spring afternoon Jamie started to feel the heat in the last few minutes and in giving him an early bath too, I thought the referee showed compassion. Its the first time in years Jamie walked without a word

The Tavistock manager will have something to say to his team about today and Jamie will be thinking why we didn't bury a team with only 8 players

At the beginning of the season I thought we would be worth a top 6 place and we should aim to win the prize money which the top 3 are awarded. With today's result it looks as if we will be the top Devon Club in the SW Peninsula League by a big margin and I think Jamie Lance and Russ deserve our congratulations. As for next season I think we have laid the foundations for a championship side
