Probeerus cheerus clementus
Gary Lobb has spoken to Fritz Prettyjohns and he tells us that it means that "Only the best will do" and that it's Greek
My Latin is pretty good and having won the Latin prize at school I can tell you this is not Latin, neither is it Italian
But my Greek is rudimentary so I've asked my scholarly son for a Greek translation and he says its not Greek
So the consensus on the motto is that it's made up to look scholarly and it can mean anything you like
"Only the best will do" is as good as anything but for the purposes of the book I've written I'm settling for " Drink up, cheer up and have a pasty"
What I need now is a YMRC badge and motto. Come you Rec players, search through your photo albums and your attics and let me have them quickly please
