12th April

Dartmouth AFC 3 Liskeard 1

This was a good match to watch and sweet revenge for the 4-0 defeat we suffered at their hands earlier in the season. I know that Benny felt this was a team from whom we should have taken 6 points. As it is, we have done well against the top teams but dropped vital points from teams beneath us in the League table

Today Benny gave Daniel Griffiths and Jordan Havelin there first team baptism and the 2 seventeen year olds did him proud

The visitors attacked us from the whistle and we failed to pick up their runners in the first 20 minutes. They had several good chances before an unmarked player was able to put them in front with a little chip that Warren Stainer had no chance with.

Lewie levelled the score early in the second half  and everything changed. The back 4 looked a lot more solid and we took over the midfield with a splendid display of skill from the 2 youngsters. Jordan Havelin could easily have scored with  a little lob and John Rimmer got on the end of a cracking header which the goalkeeper never saw but went over

Then John was brought down and Chris Hooper scored from the penalty spot - it was nice for Chris to get on the score sheet after what for him has been a quiet spell but I never watch our penalties

Then as we attacked in force the ball fell to Daniel Griffiths who buried a 25 yarder past  an absolutely top notch Liskeard goal keeper

Throughout the game our 2 youngsters found space for themselves, passed the ball quickly and accurately, turned opponents with some ease and tackled well. In the last few minutes John Barrow came on, and in him, Owen Walker, Rupert Anderson and Sam Churchill we have more youngsters who are going to stretch good teams next season

We've lost the league this year because of too small a squad of players but next year we have all these youngsters as well as the return of key players like Robbie Bowker, Mark Collins and Chris Harrity

I can't wait to get the floodlights erected on 3rd -5th May and get next season started. We need volunteers to help Dave Duffy on these dates so please dont just think about it, ring up and do your bit.
