Albert Lye

Hi Brian,

My name is Albert Lye, I played for Dartmouth from 1969 (after demob from the RN) until 1972, when I emigrated to New Zealand.

I noticed in the honours list some mistakes, I won a Premier league shield in my first season 1969-70, which I still have, we didn't win anything the next season 1970-71, then we finished Runner Up in season 1971-72 for which I also received a shield.

I have been back to UK twice, in 2004 and last year 2007, both times for 6months, staying with my daughter in Torquay. I managed to track down my relatives in Dartmouth, as well as several ex- team mates at Dartmouth, notably Bill Huxley, with whom we spent most of our Saturday nights at the Legion or Con. Club, when we also saw a lot of Don Clark. I also spoke with Michael Wainright, after the 3-1 home win over Saltash last year, and also had a drink in the club with Fritz Prettyjohns one Sunday.

We really enjoyed our time in Dartmouth, and keep in touch, as a lot of my relatives are still living there.

  Regards

 Albert Lye

Albert - is this you ? Hilary Bastone is on the right and Francis Hawke is in the middle. Chris Ray still works at Follaton house for South hams Council and the 4th chap whose name i've lost is/was a local taxi driver

Dear Brian,

Thanks for the e-mail, I'm afraid the picture is not of me, I only ever played for Dartmouth when I came out the Navy, there is a picture of me, with Chris Ray inthe team, still in the clubroom, I had a look last summer, when I was having a drink with Fritz, I also have a picture from the Dartmouth Chronicle, taken at the start of the 1969-70 season, which I can scan and send over, but unfortunately not from this computer, I don't remember playing against Chris, except maybe if he played for the market house in the summer 7-a-side tournament down Coronation Park.

I don't think I'll be able to make it out this year, my wife has just started a new job with the NZ Airforce, she used her position as a Social Worker to work for Exeter Social Services, as a break from here, but the new job is far less stressful, so if we make it over it would be for a short holiday, maybe a cheap flight, care of the RNZAF.I would have liked to be there, pity it wasn't last year, we were there fom April to October, I would have liked to have caught up with some of my old mates, like Pete Loveys, and I never saw Chris whilst I was there, and I believe Robert Smith is still in contact. Bill may be able to help with the photo, looking at the hairstyle it looks more like Helgar ( Olga) Nielson, than me, not sure of the spelling of his name. Anyway will send the photo and my  Chronicle cuttings when I get the PC sorted out,

Remember me to everyone at the club,

Best Wishes Albert
