I Am A Script Guru...*NOT*!

After joking on both Olaf's and Vince's blogs that I was a script guru, I have received two, yes TWO, pre-orders for my non-existent DVD and eBook. How funny is that? I wouldn't know what to put in a DVD having never watched Syd Field's or whatever, however - would anyone read the BANG2WRITE eBook? How much are they supposed to cost? Are they like a really long email?? I would ask Chris Soth, but he's way up the food chain from my humble writings in my box room filled with post-its, scripts, bank statements and a half-finished game of chess I began in 1994! (I don't think I even remember how to play anymore).

On the subject of emails, I've had about six this morning asking me if BABY2WRITE has arrived. As anyone who reads this blog or follows my ubiquitous posts on everyone else's, yesterday was my self-imposed ETR...And obviously this has not happened, else I would not be sitting at the keyboard, very calm, eating houmous (as I'm prone to do whilst reading your scripts by the way, just thought clients and potential clients would like to know that!). However, I'm not officially overdue until the beginning of May according to Doctors (what do they know anyway??), so there's still plenty of time to procrastinate on this site and maybe annoy some other people as well. One could do worse than check out Mcsweeney's very funny speculations on surprise endings to Snakes On A Plane film. Read them here.

Hey, I might even write that eBook too...

BLOODY HELL! That sux. It does clear up why we had to give in disks though, did wonder about that. Commiserations, Dom. Just work on the basis no one is ever happy with their final mark...I did SEVEN drafts of my final year project (no one else did!) and reckoned I should get an extra per cent or so for effort! If I had, I'd have got a bloody first. However, at the end of the day, in this business it's not about marks, it's about ability... You're out here doing it. Case closed.

To keep it short and not to bore you all my tale goes like this.

Rosie was the assigned marker of my final year work. Jan was the back up marker. On one of the peices of work I handed in there was a page missing which was the copy Jan read. The copy Rosie should have read and was supposed to be the one I got marked on had the correct amount of pages. Rosie didn't bother marking mine she just copied Jan's mark so I was given 59.7%, 0.3% short of a 2:1. The missing page in Jan's got the points deducted I needed for the 2:1.

When I went to complain, showing them the work Rosie was meant to have marked and quite obviously hadn't, I was accused of adding an extra sheet to try and get my grade up. I was not amused, but as I could do nothing about it I had to settle for a 2:2.

This is why later Scriptwriting students were asked to hand in a floppy disk back-up of all their work as insurance.

It still makes me hopping mad now....be calm, Dom, be calm!

Yep,  I'm having a bubble! And as for the potentially libellous comments, why do you think I insist on a pseudonym? ;-)

OP - within one WEEK of purchase?!? You're having a bubble, mate! As for the tutors on our course... I agree for the most part, except maybe the LIBELLOUS bits, you naughty girl ; )

Dom, how did you lose out on a 2:1?? Do tell.

And ATL - welcome back! Haven't seen you in a while. Thanks for the good wishes. When I next scoff some houmous (in about 5 mins, even though it's 8 in the morning), I'll think of you!!

Dom, I always though John got nervous in lectures, and that's why he used to pace around so much. He was my favourite tutor though - he gave me a lot of confidence in the final year, which I needed, as Rose stripped it all away in the second year. Liked Russell too and Jan was just cool - my boyfriend used to go for fry-ups with him. David wasn't as harsh with the girls on the course. In fact, he was pretty sleazy as I think Ms 2Write would concur with. He never tutored me personally though, so maybe I judge him unfairly.
