Don't You Just Hate It When This Happens?

Three years ago I got off a tube at Tottenham Court Road and came face to face with a poster for the dragon movie REIGN OF FIRE. The problem? It was the name of my (then) newest feature, also about beasts (not dragons) that were awoken after digging a new tunnel for the Underground. Though the people of London were treated to my gnashing of teeth on the platform and escalator (one of which was Sean Bean going downwards the friend with me would tell me later!), all was not really lost as in those days I was a shit writer and didn't really know anyone who could have made my very expensive feature anyway.

However, yesterday, I went to Tesco with my little boy. He's a chip off the old block and likes to read all the DVD covers in the aisle. I'm happy to let him, since I'm a bit geeky like that too and do it as well (though I'm not 7). Imagine my horror when he turns to me and says "Mum, I think you've stolen a name" and holds up a DVD.

It was called CRY WOLF.

This is Wish's new title and  I've just sent it to the Scriptapolooza and Blue Cat screenplay competitions. I never thought to do an IMDB search before changing it. Have done so now though and found out what a popular title it actually is! Needless to say it will be changed accordingly and any further titles EVER will be internet-searched first.

However, the good news is the most recent produced "Cry Wolf" my son found is not a werewolf movie, but one of those teen horror/slasher type things. The bad news? It stars Jon Bon Jovi.

Argh!

It'll happen, OSM. Just you wait.

Hey, maybe there's another way of looking at this... Maybe I'm "in tune" with other scriptwriters, so have more chance of having my specs made...

And maybe Bon Jovi didn't have a mullet ; )

Dang, girl.  Some titles have been close to mine, but never on the nose.  Take that back, at least recent ones.

Starred Jon Bon Jovi?  I guess "Cry Everyone Who Sees This Movie" must have already been taken.

Can't say that I do either! ; ) Having said that, I thought Bon Jovi rocked when I was about 12. But I was 12. My mum to this day thinks he's well fit. Maybe having me twisted her brain??

Ah, that's a shame. The title makes sense to me in the context of the circus and the characters desire. Not that I think Cry Wolf is a bad title though, and I'd never heard of the Jon Bon Jovi film, but then I don't actively seek out films with him in!

Because my script reading friend, you are the ONLY person who liked WISH as a title! Everybody else said it was dull. The circus in the script is called "Wish" circus and people who read it said it was more about two characters, not the circus itself - though I had been aiming for the "Wish" notion as part of the two characters' whimsical natures and what they "should" be/have been too, though it would seem this didn't come across...Damn it!
