Good News!!!
As I've mentioned before, there's been some MAJOR negative chi flying about this past month or so, what with my multiple rejections and my husband drinking Baby Bio, OSM's kid turning Linda Blair, The Optimistic Reader becoming Pessimistic, Scott the Reader's hassle courtesy of Zoetrope forum and similarly, Danny Stack's hate mail...In fact, I think only the lovely PJ Rodio has had any luck at all in recent weeks, with a production company optioning his "Cricket Hill" script! Well done Patrick!!!
Well, hopefully this will set off a chain reaction of good luck via the blog links in the same way the bad luck seemed to spread, 'cos I'm pleased to announce that Near to Darkness has reached the second round of the Marchmont Films script invite. I got the email last night (a saturday, past 6pm) so thought it MUST be another rejection (my logic being "Who emails at this time, apart from an overworked secretary going through a rejection list trying to clear a backlog over the weekend?"!) and didn't even open it until last! I must say actually that Marchmont have proved an extremely courteous company throughout this competition; they even emailed to confirm receipt of my script and have been forthcoming with information throughout on when applicants can expect to hear... For those who were (and some still are) embroiled in the Beeb's wall of silence over The Evening Play competition, that's refreshing!
I almost didn't enter the invite as the deadline was January 31st and for some reason, though January is normally tumble weed territory, this year it was mental. Just goes to show you have to give everything a shot, 'cos you never know what might come up... Of course, N2D may just fall at this next hurdle, but at least I have the knowledge it was in with a relatively good chance. It's all little steps...Last year, I wouldn't have been in with a sniff on anything much, but with a little dedication and some more training, I've managed to get through to the semi-finals of one US comp and to the next stage on this one. I've also still to hear from a variety of producers and the Scriptapolooza, Golconda and BlueCat competitions. Maybe I'll actually win something in the next few years...Only one thing is certain: if you don't enter, then you can't!
Anybody else enter Marchmont and heard yet?

no but you can make a ten quid donation though not compulsory. I'm not a fan of the pay-as-you-enter comps.

No bloody prize?! Now I've heard everything. Did it have an entry fee???
-
no blog yet - maybe soon and breaking news on the Oscar Moore - no prize to be awarded as "This year, though a number of scripts were deemed notable either for the quality of writing or originality of premise, it was the final opinion of the judges that none reached the requisite quality to merit receiving the prize this year. It is noted that ‘comedy’ is often claimed as one of the hardest genres to write for." Well mine was winging it as a comedy anyway...

Hi Rachel, will check out your blog.
OSM - I agree, being voted "most improved" does indeed suck ass. However, I think the secret is in seeing YOURSELF how you've improved...that's what's important. Otherwise you're walking round the place thinking you're great or shit and get nowhere. Gotta recognise both your failings and successes as far as I'm concerned. As for lilac...No it's CARNATION according to the AOL templates! : )
Hi again Bumba - bad luck on Marchmont but v cool on Open Eye. Been meaning to ask, do you have your own site or blog? Haven't heard anything about Oscar Moore, but do know Austin and Script Pimp are accepting entries now.
