It's May

This is my second post this year

That's awful

It's not awful however that actually, I've been too busy to write stuff. It's mainly Wingtsun related. What I didn't anticipate when I started the course was actually how many cool and wonderful people I'd meet and become close friends with. People who I doubt I'd have met otherwise, people who appriciate my weird sense of humour, people with similarly oddly-bending elbows. Not only is some of my time spent learning and practising WingNuts (as I fondly think of it) some more of my time is taken up with socialising with people from Wingnuts, or throwing elephants at them on facebook. I love it.

Happy New Ears to my english chums, and to my scottish friends, Happy Mahogany!

Stayed in for new years because: We're working later on today, we're too old for nightclubs, didn't know anyone having a party and wanted to spend time together. So we dressed up and took photo's of ourselves looking posh, which may follow :)

It's not been a very good year for me, journal-wise.

However, this doesn't stop me from wishing you all (both?) a very very lovely christmas. I'm cooking the crimbo dinner at mine again, so may well be wide awake with nerves at 4am and fast asleep through extreme fatigue at half past three. We'll see how it goes.

Hope you all get what you wished for, and if not, I hope that's because it got delayed in the post and you get it on thursday :)

Lots of love,

I can't believe it's been more than two months since I updated this. That's awful.

Well, I'd like to say that so much has been happening in that time that I've not had the opportunity to sit down at the pooter and compose the heartstring-tugging prose that you've all come to know and love, but I can't back that up.

However, something rather unpleasent did happen in August that I didn't really want to mention at the time and yet couldn't not mention, ergo I didn't update the journal. Once I'd calmed down of course I'd got out of the habit yada yada yada. Well, I can't keep you in suspense:

A man has fairly recently started work for the company, let's call him "tosser". I was a bit wary of him at first as he comes across as a bit of a thug and has, shall we say, slightly unlibral views about people of non-caucasian origin. However, heaven knows it's not my place to tell people how to live their lives and as he seemed to get on with the other people in the area and had quite an aptitude for the job, I kept my distance and kept my mouth shut.

Cut to about four months later. For some reason, tosser has decided that he can't be bothered with work anymore and is barely going through the motions. He's barely talking to anyone else on the line (apart from his acolyte, a guy who is newer than him), he's not doing the job properly, causing more work for other people, he's having an extra-marital affair with one of the agency and spending time (hours on end) talking to her rather than at his job, he's come into work drunk and fallen asleep in the factory and he's being strikingly aggressive. It came to a head when tosser accused MD of something that was patently tosser's fault and MD put in a complaint. Lovely Timmy, who had possibly thought this the best course of action, got us all into a room to talk it over. Well, never let it be said that I'm not one to say what I'm thinking about someone to their face. Ahem. I told him we were all sick of his attitude generally and his attitude to work and his response was "who the f*** are you to tell me this?" Oh right, nice comeback Oscar.

Anyway, instead of allowing the air to clear, tosser hung on to this simmering resentment for the rest of the day and then attempted to follow me home.

I say attempted, on account of we'd noticed him fairly early on and instead of heading directly home, took him on a winding route that doubled back on itself and then headed for the police station. He gave up before we got there. I phoned work as soon as I could but although I told them what happened, I decided not to make a formal complaint as I didn't have any conclusive proof - he would have just denied it and beaten me up at the next opportunity.

Since then, he's been in court for an unrelated assault and had a suspended sentance and a fine, and has apparently split up with his wife and been banned from driving. Shame. However, since he's still clinging onto his job by his fingernails, I can't say the situation has been resolved.

I, on the other hand have taken up Wing Tsun - a martial art similar to Tai Chi except with the emphasis on self defence. Well, you never know when that could come in handy eh?

It is with great pleasure that I wish my dear friend Robert a happy birthday (I think he's 27) Hurrah!

It is with head hanging embarrasment that I confess to have forgotten all the birthdays I should have remebered in August. To that end, I'd like to wish a happy belated birthday to Elinor M, Susie W and the incomparable KatyKateKat C. I'm hoping they will each forgive my very silly brain.

For those of you who didn't know I was going, I am now back from my 19 day international tour.

Well, I visited two countries*, that's international.

I fully intend to write a smug account of "what I did on my holidays" but I can't be arsed at the moment. Smugness to follow at a later date.

Nice to be back :)

Last week Masterfoods, who make Mars bars and Maltesers, amongst other things, put out a statement saying "due to a recipe change, we can no longer guarentee our chocolate to be free from animal products" as they were changing the type of whey to one that contained animal rennet

The cynical part of me thought this was a genius marketing ploy - this first statement would have been followed in a week or so by one that said "due to public demand, we have now removed the animal products from our recipes" thereby establishing that Masterfoods listen to the people and mars bars are definately suitable for veggies, and also giving the company a ton of free publicity. They wouldn't have even had to change the raw materials.

Headline today "Mars U-turn on animal products"

Is it any wonder I'm a cynical bugger?

I'm feeling better now. It is unusual for a cold to floor me, but this one did - it wasn't really the sneezing, the coughing or the headaches that got me, it was the lack of sleep caused by the blocked sinuses. I had two days off work because I didn't feel safe operating heavy machinery, but being off work poorly is very very dull and cabin fever was setting in after the first couple of days in the house. The day I did go out - to get some decongestant - I got caught in a heavy downpour of rain and had to shelter in a subway for twenty-five minutes. Oh joy.

Doped up to the eyeballs on MAX STRENGTH COLD AND FLU tablets, I made it into work on wednesday and lots of people asked me if I was feeling better, which means they'd noticed I wasn't there, which is pleasing. My manager, Timmy, is back from a month-long work related trip to the US, so lets hope everything starts getting back to normal.

Top joy at discovering the band OK GO - It's possible you've never heard of them, but if you have, why didn't you tell me? The Innocent Smoothies site gave me a link to this video:

YouTube - OkGo Dance

and within 48 hours I had bought the CD/DVD, watched and listened, and ordered another copy for the tinyweebadgersis to cheer her up because Meg the hamster passed away.

Hope all is ok with you, dear reader.

Love from Trina xxxx

Unusually for me, I have work first thing on monday morning (this event comes around quite infrequently due to the odd shifts I do). Even more unusually, I am feeling very very poorly with a headcold and chesty cough and am seriously contemplating phoning in sick tomorrow so I can spend the day in bed feeling sorry for myself.
